Dr. Michael N. Sawka is Chief, Thermal and Mountain Medicine Division, U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine. Dr. Sawka's research interests are environmental (heat, cold, altitude) and exercise physiology, fluid / electrolyte balance and rehabilitation medicine. He has published over 300 full-length scientific papers as well as edited graduate textbooks on environmental physiology and on exercise physiology. He is an editorial board member for American Journal of Physiology, Journal of Applied Physiology, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, International Journal of Sports Medicine, Journal of Thermal Biology, Oxford Research Forum. He served on many scientific panels and professional and is currently Chair of American Physiological Society's Environmental and Exercise Physiology Section. He is active within the American Physiological Society and the American College of Sports Medicine.
